Luminaria? What's that?
Luminaria comes from a Latin word meaning "lights" and is defined as a traditional Mexican Christmas lantern originally consisting of a candle set in sand (or kitty litter, to weight it down) inside a paper bag and placed in a row with others along a walkway or driveway as a holiday decoration, traditionally displayed on Christmas Eve.
Are there any local Luminaria displays?
I only know of two areas that do Luminaria...
McLean Hamlet - Christmas eve (alternative dates depending on weather: December 25, 31 or January 1)
.
Vienna - behind Westwood Country Club (off Old Courthouse Rd) - Christmas Eve and Christmas Night
That's Cool! How do I do my own Luminaria?
